1.
Aloxe Corton 1er Cru, clos du Chapître (the clos belonged at
one time to the Autun Chapter) : This wine reveals relatively high
tannins yet is still quite elegant. It can be enjoyed
relatively young. It exudes aromas of cherry, kirsch and
sometimes strawberries. I tested this wine myself this
week-end, and the strawberries are a little shy, but one can
definitely smell cherries.
2. Aloxe Corton 1er Cru Les Vercots
(the name comes from the fact that the vines are planted at the foot
of the slope: "vers les côteaux"): It is very
powerful with high tannins. It needs quite a bit of aging (5
years minimum). It is fleshy and a little harsh.
3. Two
Red Grands Crus : Corton Bressandes (the vines are exposed to the
Saône) and another Corton in the Corton Charlemagne area (it
cannot of course be called such...)
4. Corton Charlemagne,
Grand cru : the vines are very old and thus give a low yield.
The taste is concentrated, revealing mineral, citrus, lime and
sometimes pear aromas and tastes.
5. Grand cru: Romanée
St Vivant... Need we say anything, really ?!
